How to create your own WEB Pages

Tips

Cool Feature

You can create your WEB page and once completed (one WEB page per document or .doc file) you can mail them to us at MyWebPages@ahmed-pasha-rasheed.org and we will install them on the WEB in short order.  You don't have to worry about including menus to the main WEB pages or the bottom of the page where the copyright and other stuff goes.  We'll do that and make sure everything is linking up correctly.

I have a page on the WEB:

Each existing page on the WEB Site has a Download Button  at the very bottom right corner of each page which allows you to download onto your personal computer a copy of your page in Microsoft Word Document (.doc) format.  To download it Right Click on the button and save it as a Word document.  You may then make changes to it and send it back.

I don’t have a WEB page:

Whichever Option you use the end result is the same (a Microsoft Document)

Option 1: Use the Welcome Package.  For new members who don’t have a WEB page yet Right Click on Welcome Package (1300k) menu item and select “Save Target As” to your personal computer.  A window will pop up and a file will be saved called welcomepackage.zip.  This is a zipped file so after you save it to your computer you need to click it.  Most computers have the ZIP utility automatically unzip the file when clicked.  When unzipped, a directory will be created on your PC called ahmed-pasha-WEB.  In this directory are two templates that look similar to pages placed on the WEB site. There is also a directory for an assortment of pictures that might be useful.  The Welcome Package contains sample WEB pages in Microsoft Word format.

Option 2: Don't download anything and simply run Microsoft Word and design away your own pages the way you would like to see them and send them back to us.

Option 3: If you have trouble with Options 1, and 2, we can send you everything through email.

Option 4: If you don’t know how to use Microsoft Word then sketch out how you would like your WEB page to look and we will put them together for you.  Remember to send it along with your family tree info and pictures (contact us at same email address for instructions)

I’m an expert!

No problem.  Send us your WEB page (htm, html formats) with associated files and we will install it on the WEB site.

Cool Feature:

Available to you is the option to include “Sounds” with your WEB Page.  At the bottom of each WEB page are two graphics.  One is a musical note  and the other is a loud speaker .  When the person looking at your WEB page clicks on the musical note you can have it play your favorite song, symphony etc… and when they click on the loud speaker you can greet them with your own voice (or someone else’s).  At the current time there are two defaults setup for you.  One is the theme Alf Lila Wa Lila (from an old radio program that played during the month of Ramadan in the 50’s and 60’s) and “Have a nice day.”

Microsoft usually includes a simple one minute Sound Recording tool under the Entertainment menu option of the Accessories tab when you select All Programs after clicking the Start button (XP operating system).  You will need a microphone which is free standing or attached to Headsets that you can purchase at any electronics store.  You will need to purchase a sound recording tool if you want to record over one minute.

Send your sound files along with your WEB pages.

Tips:

1- If you don't have a ZIP utility, we can send you information on how to get one or click (FreeWare 3.3 mg+) and download it from here and change its file type to EXE after downloading.  It helps a great deal for members who have a modem (the welcome package is about 4mg unzipped and a typical WEB page is about 200k)

2- Microsoft Word is a powerful word processor and its capabilities can overwhelm WEB browsers.  A rule of thumb is to make your WEB page simple in the way of graphics and layering of graphics.  If you have different boxes and arrows on your page, Souna suggests that you hold down the “Shift” key and click on all of them then “Group” them together by right clicking and selecting Group.  This solves a shifting problem with browsers other than Microsoft Explorer.

3- Performance issues are present when the person looking at your WEB page is using a modem.  Again, try to watch out for adding too many objects like pictures and shapes to a page.

4- Privacy matters.  The WEB site is PUBLIC and so Shy away from including details like contact information and birth dates on your WEB pages.  This private information will be available to members on a per-request basses.
